Sand with bright colors, waves disappear, rocks to the tunes of trolls ... Unusual beaches abound. Those we have selected here, if they do not lend themselves to all swimming, are all amazing.

1. BOWLING BALL BEACH, CALIFORNIE

Compared to green sand or vanishing tides, simple rounded rocks do not immediately appear to be reason enough to visit this Californian beach. Yet the sight of "bowling balls" ("bowling balls" in English) wisely aligned on the sand like a giant game immediately gives the thrill. It is at low tide one can best admire those perfectly round and smooth rocks, which seem to have been placed next to each other by a giant invisible hand. The most soft rock on the outside, has been eroded by waves. The heart, harder, they resisted.
By car, take Highway 1 (Highway 1). The Bowling Balls are on the Mendocino Coast; Schooner Gulch Road take the branching off of the highway.

2.  HARBOUR ISLAND, BAHAMAS

You have to pinch yourself to believe it ... Is it the hallucinatory vision of a psychedelic landscape colors of cotton candy? Or is it pink sand ...? Well yes, it's pink sand. Its color is due to tiny particles of coral that are mixed with the white sand. It is fantastic pink sand beaches along the eastern coast of Harbour Island. And if that was not enough to make your favorite island, know that the typical clear blue waters of the Bahamas are also waiting for you.

3. GLASS BEACH, CALIFORNIE

This range reflects the extraordinary ability of nature to turn lead into gold. Located at the foot of cliffs, it has long served as a discharge to the City of Fort Bragg. Until the late 1960s, people dumped their waste and bulky - including their old cars and appliances - from the cliffs into the ocean. The authorities finally put a stop to. Over the following decades, the waves have made a real sleight of hand. As a huge screen, they have separate glass waste and patiently polished. So much so that today, the beach feels like a showcase jeweler. People had become used to pick these beautiful pieces of glass, a practice now banned.

At Fort Bragg, follow Elm Street to the end and go down the dirt road that leads to the beach. Be careful because it is treacherous in places.

4. BAIE DU PRINCE-WILLIAM, ALASKA

Their proximity to the northernmost tip of the Gulf of Alaska gives local beaches a supernatural air. Tidewater glaciers flowing into the sea, the air is fresh and pure, the mountain peaks are reflected in the clear water, and black sand beaches, flanked by green hills are bathed in water from a sparkling blue. So much for the scenery but talking about people - harbor seals, sea otters, whales, eagles and bears, to name a few. In short, it is a paradise for kayakers.

However, if the idea of paddling alone in cracking glaciers makes you shudder, fold about a cruise.

5. PAPAKŌLEA, HAWAÏ

As for beaches, volcanic islands in the Hawaiian archipelago not only the classic white sand. Black, red and green are also in the game! One can not speak of emerald green to qualify Papakolea sand, but you can clearly distinguish its green tint due to the olivine crystals deposited there there are about 10,000 years, following a volcanic eruption. These crystals are heavier than the other volcanic material. And when the sea swept past the beach is adorned with a green plus franc. Olivine eventually disappear and the beach again become gray, but we have a few millennia ahead.

Papakolea is located in the district of Ka'u. To join, one must climb the volcanic cone and then take him down. But it's worth the effort!

The sea here is a trick: it disappears! At low tide, the waves retreat to about 5 km. Such a distance is unusual, and the show is at least strange - almost eerie. It is hard to believe that they were not carved by the hand of man. That tells the mythology? The famous warrior Finn McCool, a giant, exchanged threats with his Scottish rival, beyond the sea. Order to fight, both built a floor ("Causeway" in English). The geology is in support of the myth because we find similar training in Scotland. Do not miss the most spectacular natural sculptures like the Giant's Boot ("boot Giant") and Chimney Stacks ("Chimney shafts").

According to Aboriginal legend, a spirit embodied in the form of arc-en-ciel have plunged into the cliffs as he struggled to conquer a woman. In doing so, he would have stained colors. By far, the sand the golden air, but it is enough to pick up a handful to distinguish those famous colors.

Get up early to feed the wild dolphins of Tin Can Bay, nearby. There is only one session per day, at exactly 8am.

10. PLAGE DE VÍK, ISLANDE

The small town of Vik has three main characteristics. First, it is the southernmost city of Iceland. Secondo is the wettest place on the island. Third, it has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Obviously, this is a beach made for contemplation rather than for swimming ... The waves fringed with white foam washing up on the black sand and cliffs that overlook a flamboyant green sparkle that we owe to all this rain. Strange basalt formations, resembling sculptures, seem to stand guard. Tradition dictates whether it's unfortunate trolls surprised by the sun it.

Accommodation at Vik is limited. You can try to stay at the hostel.
