7 wonders of the ancient world


We really do not know where does this list, or what are the monuments that make it up, but everyone has heard of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. I will present here the 7 wonders. You're probably wondering why I specify "the ancient world", well it's simple, there are a few years a new classification has been established in order to build the new 7 wonders of the modern world.
These seven wonders were chosen for their overall dimensions prefectures. These monuments bear witness to ancient knowledge and remain for some real mysteries even today.
While most of these wonders no longer exist today, archaeological excavations have proved the existence of six of them.

1-The Lighthouse of Alexandria

Located on the island of Pharaos in Egypt, the Lighthouse of Alexandria was built around 280 BC during the reign of Ptolemy II. This lighthouse was nearly 135 meters high and was visible more than 50 kilometers offshore.


2-The Colossus of Rhodes

Located in the port of Rhodes in Greece, the Colossus of Rhodes was built between 303 and 291 BC, 12 years of work. This statue was measured around 14 meters high.

3-The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were on the bank of the Euphrates, near Baghdad, in the city of Babylon. However, the existence of these gardens is not a certainty for all historians. Indeed any Greek historian mentions the gardens, only tales of soldiers testify to the existence of these gardens. This is the only one of seven wonders of the ancient world whose very existence is controversial.

4-The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

Built in 350 BC in honor of King Mausolus, the building is 43 meters high was destroyed by an earthquake in the fourteenth century. The stone was reused to build a fortress, there is no trace of this mausoleum. This was at Halicarnassus, near Bodrum.

5-The Temple of Artemis

This wonder of the world, located in Turkey was built in the third century BC in the city of Ephesus, Selcuk today. The Temple of Artemis had nearly 127 columns 18 meters tall. It was destroyed by fire in 356 before J. C.

6-The Statue of Zeus

The statue of Zeus, located in Olympia, Greece is a representation of Zeus sitting on a throne. This statue was made ​​of gold and ivory. Quite spectacular dimensions, nearly 12 meters high, this wonder of the world almost touched the ceiling of the temple where she was.

7-The Pyramid of Cheops

The Pyramid of Cheops is the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Built around 2800 BC in Egypt, this monument is actually a giant tomb. Indeed, these dimensions are impressive, 232 meters wide and 146 meters high. This pyramid is a mystery even today, because of its construction.
