1/ The festive traditions are still the most respected, thus Mardi Gras and the week preceding it provides an opportunity around the world to celebrate. Here are the most popular places for the carnival. Above: Venice, Italy. This is one of the most extravagant and finest carnival in the world. Costumes and masks are always works of art. There centuries carnival lasted six months. Today, it no longer takes a few days but remains a prime tourist attraction.
2/ The Quebec Winter Carnival is the third largest in the world in attendance, and is unlike any other. Rather than draw the sun and the colors of summer, it celebrates the joys of winter.
3/ The Nice Carnival is the largest carnival in France and also the oldest. Float parades on the Promenade des Anglais, flower parades, and the inevitable burning of King ... Local producers develop their talent to flourish 'corsis' then parading around the city.
5/ The Carnival of Rio de Janeiro is the most famous, wildest, most colorful, but also the most demanding: only the largest samba schools is the right to march. They clash in colorful and rhythmic games. The highlight of the carnival is held at the Sambadrome in front of 90,000 people in an explosion of feathers, sequins and fireworks.
6/ The Carnival of Dunkirk Dunkirk agglomeration mobilizes for several weeks. Its origins date back to the early seventeenth century, before leaving for six months of cod fishing in Iceland, shipowners provided fishermen with a meal and a big party. Not sure to return alive, let alone see a woman for six months, sailors dressed up as a woman and had the right to do almost everything. His adventures, it remains today the follies which never deprive Dunkirk and thousands of visitors.
7/ Mardi Gras in New Orleans was considered the second largest carnival in the world prior to Hurricane Katrina. It takes its importance and rank with the fervor of the people who perpetuate a tradition of the eighteenth century.
8/ Trinidad carnival, extremely colorful, is the largest in the Caribbean. The general public is invited to don beautiful costumes to dance in the streets to the sound of calypso. No dance competition but musical groups called Steelbands.
9/ Binche, a small town in Belgium, saw its population explode during Carnival. The famous Gilles and their heavy costumes hand out oranges to the people to the sound of trumpets and bells. The largest carnival Belgian was recognized in 2003 by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
10/ The Cologne Carnival is unknown. The festivities begin with the carnival women who dress for the occasion. Then everyone is invited to many parades and balls that follow. Symbol of celebration: Nubbel, the straw dummy, which ends like every year burned in public.
